Season 1/Episode 12: Alligator Gar feat. Nestled in the foothills of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains lies Lake Sidney Lanier, one of Americas favorite lakes. Teamwork and grueling hours produce a 705-pound, 12-foot, 6-inch giant gator for two Georgia brothers. A roughly 13-foot, 700-pound alligator was recently found in an irrigation ditch, officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said this week. We sampled the alligator gar population in the Red River drainage of Oklahoma–Texas from March 2006 to April 2008 to evaluate population characteristics, identify efficient sampling techniques, and evaluate.
